Hi, have never used professional movers before and wondered if anyone had any idea of the costs involved? Has anyone has them do the packing and unpacking? Was it good? Worth it?

i saw there was another thread on this but it was a zombie so starting a new one.

Our last move was in 2019. We paid around £400 I think for a team of people to come box up the contents of a large 4 bedroom house in one day. Worth every penny! We unpacked ourselves on the other side.

We moved last year, was around £1800 i think including packing. The packing was about £200-£300.

Edit to add - moved from a small 3 bed, distance of about 15 miles.

I have used these services for my last 3 house moves, and they have been a god send! I found that in each case the price of the packing was v low, ie a few hundred pounds, and seemed to be something of a ‘loss leader’ for the actual moving services. I unpacked myself, simply because the first time I couldn’t afford the unpacking service, and on the second two occasions I was downsizing to save money, and knew fitting everything in would be hard and involve decisions re what to actually keep, no way anyone but me could have done that!

Have paid for packing for last 3 moves and well and truly worth the money; several hundred more. Anything they pack is insured, whereas if you drop it, uninsured.

I think it was about £1100 for a three bedroom 3 years ago. Worth every pound!

I moved in July this year and had just lost my Dad and had no headspace to manage the move. I said to the removals man who came to quote that I didn't want to even think about it. I was able to unpack at the other end but needed them to dismantle beds, wardrobes, full pack and reassemble furniture at the other end. I paid £1900 for a 3 bed house. The day before when they came to pack I went out for the day and didn't lift a finger aside from providing hot drinks - was worth every single penny.

Can't remember what we paid, but when we moved, the packing service wasn't much cost to add on to the removals, and it was a godsend. Would never move without it again.

I haven’t moved in a while so I can’t comment on cost but definitely worth it.

They pack everything (and I mean everything - you need to put things you don’t want packed in a cupboard or similar).

At the other end, they only unpack and reassemble the furniture - they will put boxes in the labelled rooms but they won’t put clothes back in wardrobes etc.

It saves so much time and effort when it’s already stressful.

Invaluable.

I'm not sure unpacking was an option. I wouldn't have wanted that anyway. But packing and then assembling furniture is so so worth it.

Literally just moved this week and total cost of packing and then reassembling furniture at other end was £1400, this was a move of 70 miles and a 4 bed house to a 3 bed house. Totally worth getting the packing service as with 2 young kids it would have been near on impossible.
