To not wash our sofa cushions?

We have recently bought the ikea 4 seater gronlid.

As much we love it, having a grey sofa with a baby and a toddler probably wasn't the best idea as this shows up every stain possible.

I've read a few threads that say to not wash your sofa covers even if it says washable as it shrinks.

Is there anything else I can use please? Thank you!

If Ikea say it's washable then it is safely washable, provided you follow the washing instructions and avoid tumble drying if it says to do that. If you're worried maybe wash one cushion cover on a low temp and see how it comes out.

I have a washable ikea sofa set and have washed it many times without incident.

I wash sofa cushion covers, the key to avoid shrinking is to stretch them out as much as possible when wet and then put back on the cushions when still a little damp. Then leave the cushions spread out to dry fully and turn regularly (not back on the sofa until fully dry).

I've lost count at how many times we have washed out light grey sofa cushions

I’ve washed mine recently and although not ikea ones they came out ok. I just washed on very low temp and let air dry and there was no shrinkage. Was a complete pain getting them back on tho 🤣

I have an IKEA Vilasund sofa bed and have washed my covers about 3 times without any issues. I don't tumble dryer them though.

I’ve washed mine before. They were a pain to get back on tho. I also have the vax spot wash which works well

Out of curiosity, what do you do if you can’t remove the pillowcase or the sofa material? How do you clean your sofa then? Mine is a custom-made type thing and you can’t remove anything, and it’s like a grayish pink, but it’s very light.

@Hellokittymania I would get a rug doctor spot cleaner with the extendable arm for this.

Hellokittymania · 26/10/2023 17:11

OK, thank you

We have throws on our sofas too, far easier to chuck them in the washing machine (and they tumble dry too, so I can get them off, washed and dried and back on in an hour). We also have the Bissell SpotClean Pro which is great for cleaning the carpet or sofa arms, etc.

We wash our ikea sofa cushion covers at 30 and dry them on the line, had no problems.

Twiglets1 · 26/10/2023 21:48

If it says they’re washable, they are.

Tbh it is quite a hard job getting the cushion bits back in the covers, you have to be quite violent with them to get them back in. But once they are in it’s all fine.

We have Gronlid and I’ve washed many times with no issues.
