Oswestry - what is the town like?

Anyone advise what Oswestry is like? We have seen a house we like and the nearest town is Oswestry but googling it there are some negative reviews. Any good or bad comments about the town would be great!

My daughter taught in a local school there we visited a few times staying overnight in hotels and thought it lovely.

It's a nice, active little market town with plenty of independent shops and cafés and a great town park in the middle. There are some lovely areas of housing in the town, and lots of nice villages surrounding. Public transport is buses only, but there's a decent service to surrounding areas by all accounts.

Like anywhere else there are problem areas and some crime, but it's not what anyone would describe as rough or crime-ridden.

I know it's technically England and not Wales, but I have family that live there going back generations. There opinion is its a very gossipy place and if you're not Welsh or have a certain local surname/family name and you are an outsider you won't be welcomed with open arms.
That's just one perspective though.

Oswestry is one of the worst places I've ever had the displeasure of living in.
The people are miserable, they most certainly do not like children, never had not once friendly person even say hi to my child. (I have everywhere else I've been to in the UK!) It's run down, the town centre is horrendous. The food is dreadful. Just one dull, miserable, horrible place. Never known anywhere like it. Avoid.
