Can you locate appliances outside?

DH is insisting on putting the washing machine and freezer outside on the deck of a property we are refurbishing. It is a holiday rental apartment in a warm climate but I am still not convinced it is a good idea. Is it safe? They will be housed in cupboards with a stone or similar worktop over. Any thoughts?

I'd have thought it should be ok so long as it's waterproof.

Would you want to risk it if you are renting the property out? If it's abroad you won't be able to keep check that the cupboards remain watertight, and if one of your tenants was electrocuted.....or a child...

I know quite a lot of people who have their w/m and freezers in sort of lean-tos in the garden or outbuildings. Would be best to ask a plumber/electrician though.

When we re-did our kitchen, we put the old fridge freezer in a brick shed behind the garage to use as an'overflow' - it was fine until a mouse decided to nest in the back of it & chewed through the wire....

When dd1 was born it was still another 6 months until I got a kitchen lots of appliances outside covered with waterproof sheeting for weeks on end - this was UK!
