Anyone have a very steep garden and small children?

Offer accepted on our dream house which ticks all the boxes in terms of location/space/period etc. My only reservation is that it is built into a steep hill. This means there is a smallish lawn which you can only reach from the living area via steps. This lawn is fenced off so is secure. Then there are more steps down to the bottom bit of the garden which is abit flatter but ends in a ravine.

DH and my dad are satisfied that we can fence it all off to make it safe (have dd 19 months and hope to have another one). I think I can get comfortable with it - but any thoughts? Anyone else have a similar set up?

Our garden is bordered by a very steep slope with a stream at the bottom.
There is a 4' fence separating the garden from the slope.
When the children were small (probably up to age 4) we always supervised them in the garden.
Now they are older we are actually thinking of setting up a zip wire from our garden to other side of stream!!

Sounds fun!

The chap we are buying from brought his family up in the house but moved in when his youngest was 6. His grandchildren (4- 11 months) are regular visitors so that gave me some comfort. Also the living space inside is really big and includes a conservatory so she could play unsupervised- ish in there but when shes in the garden I would have to be with her.

As you say when shes older going to the bottom of the garden will be an adventure.

Our garden is on quite a steep slope,up away from the house. Our dd's were 2 & 3 weeks when we moved in & are nearly 3 & 4.5 now.We have never had a problem with it really,it isn't ideal foe riding bikes ect,but they have fun racing up & down the steps & although they have tripped a few times,it is no more than they would have done on the level.

It means I can see them from the house, wherever they are in the garden too.
