Flies in the roof lantern

We have a roof lantern in our extension.

During the summer, the bloody flies/other insects come in when we have the bifolds open, buzz around and get stuck up there.

Come the morning when we come downstairs, the floor is like a fly graveyard that needs hoovering and looks pretty gross.

Anyone else have this issue? Wondering what anti-insect measure I can set up to put up in the roof lantern to deter them.

Flies hate mint, so if you could hang a mint plant up there it might help?

I was going to suggest a fantastic fly trap tape which is not that disgusting brown stuff you hang from light bulbs, but it's a kitchen, so it would be utterly gross trapping them there.

I would look into covering the space underneath the lantern with a very fine mesh for summer so they can't even get up there in the first place.

I'm going to try hanging a bag of pennies in water up - friend swears by it in her conservatory...just need to find something to hang it from!

We have the same issue. I just hoover them all up each morning. And every so often get the nozzle up to the ledge that runs around to side of the lantern to vacuum the corpses up from there too

Get one of those zapper things they have in the old butchers shops! (Only half joking, they're not expensive online)

I'm going to try mint, only as we already have some mint spider repelling spray in the house already.

I've seen you can get those ultrasonic fly repellers but as it's a roof lantern there's no where to put it up there or a ledge to balance it on.
