Yesterday I smelt gas in the front bedroom when I went to close the window and could hear a hissing noise, then realised the guy that was nailing a few floorboards hit both the water and gas pipe with the nail!

I was so shocked and stressed, if I hadn't of been In the room to close the window I don't know what would have happened to us. I turned off the gas and called the emergency engineer who checked and confirmed it.

Got my husband to call them, they said they will send someone round and still no-one. I have 2 kids no gas or water, had to turn both off. The living room ceiling looks like its about to cave in too, just don't know who to turn to what to do. I can't go on like this.

So are the gas and water pipes inside your property? If so, the utility company won't sort it, you'll need a gas engineer / plumber.

Yeah, but its the carpenters fault and he should pay for this right? And I shouldn't be waiting around for him either

Does the carpenter have insurance? It might be the case you have to sort it out now and claim from his insurance - maybe ring back the gas company and see what they can advise.

Are you able to leave the property to be elsewhere?

Have you called the firm back today to ask for an update on when they will be sending an engineer and pointed out that you have no water or gas and children 8n the property?

Do you have home insurance? They may cover this but I'm not sure if you would have to claim back costs through the company that made the error or if they would do this.

No, have nowhere else to go.

Yeah, I will call up a few companies.

I have called them and explained the full situation, they just keep saying they are waiting on someone to get in touch with them.

I'll have to check on the home insurance.
