Hoping to get some advice on where to live around Cambridge. Need to be within a 45-60 minute commute of Addenbrooke's hospital.

Looking for a small town or large village, good schools (1 primary age child and one preschool age), good public transport links to the city, green and leafy. Where should we start looking?

Traffic is a nightmare and parking at Addies is over £3/day, and that's before the introduction of any congestion charge.

Your best bet is to live on good cycle infrastructure - any of the Greenways. A10 between Royston and Cambs is a good shout, the A10 cycle path takes you straight to Addenbrookes via the guided busway. Meldreth, Foxton (both have stations), Fowlmere all nice, as are Whittlesford/Duxford but you might not get what you're after for £750K.

Melbourn and Sawston tend not to be as nice as the villages surrounding them. I'd prefer Melbourn over Sawston but it is smaller.

Public transport is nonexistent. Would rule out St Ives on the schools alone.

Also for Addies I wouldn't live north of Cambridge. M11/A10 junction for the hospital is horrific in the morning. A lot of people who live in Barton/Comberton cycle through town instead of driving.

This is pretty good value for Trumpington and walkable/bike able to Addenbrooks. Trumpington is a very popular sub. Cambridge schools, especially secondaries, are very good, especially Hill Road 6form. You get significantly more house/curb appeal/garden for your money by going north or east though, into the fens/suffolk.

These are all really helpful tips, thanks all! I appreciate the rightmove links too. I think DH ideally wants a detached house and I want a decent sized garden for the DC and the dog.

Traffic into Cambs tends to be pretty busy. Cherry Hinton is nice, Fulbourn, you’ve also got Saffron Walden, Linton. Also South is Great Shelford and Sawston, Granchester.

I like Histon/Impington to the North of Cambs. Ely is nice but would be tricky getting to Addenbrooks.
