Thats it really, we currently live south of sheffield and are wanting to move out of a city into a more village community, dh currently works in Sheffield but will probably be moving to Leeds at some point so living somewhere between both would be great! Would need a decent primamy school for dd too!

Any suggestions really appreciated, thanks

i guess places like outibridge, thurgoland (love the name of the place) and possibly chapeltown, but don't know which are nice or have good primary schools.

I really only know S10 very well!

The only thing to watch will be which ones flooded last summer, because quite a few of the villages between Sheffield and Leeds did.

Ooh, that's my neck of the woods!!

There are lots of really nice villages near us with great access to the M1. If you have a look on a map, I would suggest areas such as Shelley, Shepley, Emley, Kirkburton, Highburton, Flockton (the centre of the universe of course ) etc. They are in what is known as the Shelley pyramid of schools as they feed into Shelley College, which is a really good high school. We do have a first/middle/high school system at the moment but that is due to change within the next seven or so years.
have a look at this estate agents and this one

Am sure that others with suggest some different areas too!!

Why not have a look at the Wakey/Barnsley/Hudds meet-up threads. I'm not on there, because I work full-time and so don't make it to meet-ups, but I know that a lot of those ladies are in the neck of the woods that you're looking at.

I am in WF5, which is more a small-town than a village, so might not be what you're looking for, but we have excellent schools (primary and secondary) here and are within easy commuting distance of either Sheffield or Leeds (in fact, one of the reasons we bought here was because dh was unsure whether he'd be working in Leeds or Sheffield... he has ended up in Manchester but never mind!). We love it here.

I like a lot of the villages going out towards Huddersfield (Emley, Lepton, Flockton, etc... though Flockton definitely flooded!), but I've never lived there (we moved from the south to the town where we are now).

Hello Ellbell, great minds and all that

Ellbell · 17/02/2008 09:32

Yes, I was going to mention what fatzac said about Kirklees still having a middle school system. We come under Wakefield LEA, and so have a junior/secondary system (changing schools at 11).

Hiya . My SIL used to live in Flockton. I love it out there, but because we both work full-time, I find it easier to be (a) in a slightly bigger town with more availability of childcare, shops open till 8 p.m., etc. and (b)closer to the M1 (as I work in Leeds).

Keep us posted becksmummy - I can send you the property pages of the local paper if you like. I am a bit property obsessed as I am always wanting to move
