Copy of Conveyancing File

We purchased our new build property at the end of 2020 and although had a local conveyancing firm everything was done via email.

Can we ask for a final copy of our file? We think they've made an error with our transaction but want to make sure we've got our facts right before we make a complaint.

You can ask but they may ask for a fee for copying

Yes you have a right to request a copy of your file, just quote your reference if you had one.

Well an interesting update.

After ignoring the request for months we finally received a copy of the file. What an eye opener. Many documents provided by the seller weren't passed onto us, including some key ones. Explains their dragging their feet. We have a solicitor having a look through it all for us.

That's not good. Would those files have stopped you from buying the house?

Possibly, it's a mess and could cost us £££ to sort out. I wish we'd gone with a good local solicitor rather than a conveyancing firm recommended by the Estate Agent.
