What did you tile you WC/Cloakroom? Danger that metro looks like public loo??!!

Hi,
I need to rush a decision for the half height tiling in the WC. We are tiling all four walls. Have no idea what to go for and struggling to find much inspiration. Really scared of getting it wrong as we seem to be rushing all the house decisions now. Quite like the look of the textured rectangular tiles. Metro can look good in photos but does it look naff and cheap in real life? Think I'd go white, with grey grout.

Any help so gratefully received! Massively struggling with this decision.

Want a dark/bold paint colour above. Maybe F&B Denimes?

We did white metro tiles with grey grout and painted emerald green above, we chose white tiles so we could repaint above any colour when we fancied a change and the colour would go with the tiles.

We’ve never found it to look like a public loo, although maybe because ours has scented candles and plants rather than urine puddles!

Ha! It does look great whenever I see it in photos. Just visited Topps Tiles and it looks quite bland and basic there, but their displays are generally very uninspiring. I think when it's all in with nice floor, bold paint etc it will look great. Yes, we would go for white. What shade of grey did you go for with the tiles?

Did you paint prior to the tiling? Concerned about getting a neat finish at the edge of the tiles

Husband has a preoccupation about them looking like a public lav as well. ‘Artisan’ (subtly textured) tiles are somehow less municipal looking. Keeping the grout line v. thin will also help. Don’t know if you’re in a rush but Original Style also do gorgeous metro tiles in a variety of finishes, but most of them are made to order. Topps makes me feel depressed 😂

in the WC, we got a lovely patterned tiled floor (in a bold colour) and did white metro tiles on the walls - I really like what it looks like

We thought of tiling half way up but had the public loo thoughts. In the end we chose tiles from Topps that are just slightly bigger than the metro ones we went for flat rather than the bevelled edge ones with an edging strip put around them and just 2 tiles deep above the loo and sink unit we got. With patterned tiled floor and navy unit with grey paint walls we were very pleased with it. I'll try to upload a photo.

I hate metro tiles for that reason - remind me of public loos etc. I did large rectangular tiles but laid them horizontally rather than the usual vertical. A friend of mine has matte rather than gloss tiles which are unusual and I really like them!

I have Matt white metro tiles in my half height tiles downstairs bathroom - I really like them.

They only look public loo if you use them floor to ceiling.

Ok, for those who have them - did you go matt it gloss? Flat or bevelled edge? White or grey grout? Did you use a trim on the top? So many questions!!

To answer your Q's OP. Matt tiles (Topps Tiles), bevelled edge, grey grout, silver trim on top. The grey grout is fantastic as it does not look grubby, ever.

Here is ours.

We've got forest green metro tiles with gold trim. The paint is a similar green. Just being painted today .

This is what we did, I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

I’d be dead pleased if I went into a public loo and it was nice metro tiles and funky paint. They’re all just bland plastic walls. Go for it!

I love metro tiles. The ones I hate are the giant greige tiles which look like their motto is to be inoffensive.

@spartanrunnergirl they were from Al Murad.

I know this is a super old post but do you have a final picture? I think you said you were painting it too?
