Help! White metro tiles or coloured tiles?

I need to decide today (!) as tiling starts tomorrow on whether to have white metro tiles or something more colourful. We have chosen this shower:

www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/arezzo-900-x-900-matt-black-grid-frameless-pivot-door-shower-enclosure-tray?sku=AZ9PDET-LH&categoryId=b738bb7d-212e-4445-a97a-bd42ea2dd594-3EB4:en-GB

Which I guess is quite statement-y so originally had planned on white metro tiles with grey grout. However, when in the shop I saw these other tiles (photo attached) and thought they were nice and maybe better than having a white bathroom? With the white tiles I would have added colour with tiles/ plants. I’m keen for it to feel warm and cosy, if that’s a thing with bathrooms. I hate making decisions 😫

What about white metro tiles with black grout? Or white metro tiles in a herringbone pattern?

I think the coloured tiles are beautiful, I wonder if they might be a bit busy with the statement shower you’ve picked.

HellyPen · 26/01/2023 14:25

@Powerpuffpoodle yes that’s what I’m worried about, it’s a bit of statement shower plus statement tiles.. to much maybe. I think my husband many kill me if I tell him to return the green ones, they were quite heavy to bring in from the car! I wasn’t going to have the green ones in herringbone, just the brick style layout. Argh. The builder will probably also be annoyed as I think he’s already bought the white grout to go with the green tiles. I thought they were green anyway, they look a bit more blue in the photo!

I’d go colour, I have white metro tiles and them with coloured grout is done to death.

i prefer the green tone ones though.and think it works better with black.

like these

i habe these, and they are utterly gorgeous in real life, with metallic bronze and copper , and think they would work well. Our shower is the done in a silver rustic tile to blend in.

be adventurous.

Will you be having the whole bathroom tiled or just the shower part? If your bathroom is light, I’d go for colour. Some of the jewel toned tiles look fab with the black showers. Green would definitely be my preference over the white though.

restisall · 26/01/2023 14:31

I’d also prefer green with black to the blue!

Fragrantandfoolish · 26/01/2023 14:37

The ones you posted look pale blue op to be fair.

HellyPen · 26/01/2023 14:37

Thanks all, interesting most of you are saying colour! I feel like I’m losing my nerve. We had intended for the tiles to be in the shower cubicle and than also between the sick and mirror. We will probably replace the old white tiles above the bath as well, but might leave them for the moment. The bathroom is quite light.

@restisall do you mean you don’t like the green tiles in the photo I attached? They look blue in the photo but more green in real life!

Alternative photo of the supposedly green tiles, they look quite blue don’t they? 🤔

Normally I would say coloured tiles as all white is a bit passé now but I really like the white tiles in the pic with the navy walls. Or you could go for the opposite, coloured tiles in the shower and white on the walls?

HellyPen · 26/01/2023 14:51

Yes the other walls would be white.

I think I'd have huge tiles in the shower so there's less grout, but it's probably too late now.

Colour is good though.

Yes the other walls would be white.

Then I would go for coloured tiles in the shower, for contrast and drama. I have green tiles in my shower and white walls, and lots of plants everywhere! It's my happy place Wink

Hi, I’ve sent you a PM with pic of mine that had done recently we went green alongside the white and absolutely love it ! We all need some colour in ours lives so just go for it. Think blue or green would look fabulous .

HellyPen · 26/01/2023 15:56

@Vikingmama79 thanks, looks very nice indeed! I don’t think mine will end looking quite so polished 😂😬. I’m now wondering whether to try to find some actually green tiles…

I'd definitely go coloured! Green sounds nice. I went pink (hope the photo attachment works)
