Bathroom and kitchen renovation disaster

Our fitter has done an absolutely terrible job. On everything.

We moved in a week and a half ago and I was trying to put a brave face on it.

This morning the integrated fridge collapsed the low SHELF it had been installed on (why?!) and crashed onto the opposite worktop, smashing all my wine glasses and obviously all the food/drink fell out. I'm so glad no one was in there, especially my baby.

He's just done everything so so badly. We can't shower as the mastic needs redoing, the grouting looks terrible, everything is just really poor.

I feel so sad about it. Has anyone ever had to start from scratch?

I really feel for you. Poor workmanship drives me mad. We're currently going down the court route with a local firm who renovated our bathrooms and refused to fix the issues. Are you able to contact the company to air your complaints and try to agree a way forward?

Oh no! How did they respond? Will they come in to make good? Some snags are almost bound to appear and always need sorting afterwards, and they all can usually be fixed. It's just a nightmare if the builder/company refuses all responsibility.

But don't put a brave face on it! Take photos of everything that is not working/unacceptable standard and request ASAP that they make good!

Have you paid already in full? Only pay the final bill once you are happy.

The work is that bad that I think the guy who did it basically just a complete lost cause. I don't want him coming anywhere near this house again tbh. I phoned him and said how I feel and he was really apologetic, so I suppose at least he hasn't ghosted us.

I want money back, rather than him redoing any of it -- it's like he's never fitted a kitchen in his life!

The fridge was the last straw -- it was when it became dangerous that I got really angry.

My husband found him and has been the one project managing everything -- I wish I'd been more involved but we have a newborn and I wasn't able to be as involved as I maybe should have been.

I need to calm down before we speak to him again later. I think I just need him to give us an enormous refund and then I'll find someone else myself. 😩

Ugh I always end up with strike throughs for some reason! They weren't meant to be there!
