London Oxford Coast location

My parents are looking to downsize in the next couple of years and are looking for a location that is less than an hour on the train to London, about an hour from the coast and about an hour or less from Oxfordshire. Do you think somewhere like this exists? Any recommendations would be very much appreciated! Also, a town centre location, not rural? Thank you all.

Winchester

Reading?

Thanks. They have looked at Reading but I wasn’t sure if some areas can be a bit rough? Winchester looks like a possibility, thanks.

Yes you’re looking at that Winchester-London train route. Alton and Alresfors too. Maybe Petersfield? (But hazy on distance to Oxfordshire).

Newbury or Swindon might be worth a look. They are not as "exciting" as Reading but both under an hour on the train to London, good routes to Oxford and not too far from either the south coast or Severn estuary..

Thank you all. I will look at all of these.

You are really looking between Winchester and Newbury really straight up A34 to Oxford straight down M3 to South Coast. Both have train lines to London. Winchester - Waterloo, Newbury -Paddington.
Newbury is cheaper than Winchester.

Busget matters alot here- if you are downsizing would need very large budget even for something small.

I am talking about Winchester where I live

In addition to above -
Guildford/Godalming
Farnham (small but lovely)
