Has anyone had an oriel window fitted?

There is already a triangular oriel window (a bit like the photo but brown and uglier) in my living room but it looks odd and doesn’t provide enough space to sit in. I’m also not sure if it can take the weight of a person. I’m considering replacing it with a box oriel window.

Has anyone had one fitted? Who did you hire to do the work - a builder or window fitter or someone else? How much did it cost (roughly) and was it worth it? TIA.

Its structural so doubt that an average window fitter would be able to design one. You might need planning permission and also have to apply for building regulations.

We just had one fitted, it was designed by an architect, then drawings sent to window company. They still managed to cock it up and it is much shallower than the drawings (by about 10 cm), so very noticeable. We are in the process of gathering grounds for a claim against the glass company, as this is one of many issues with our windows and we want them to rectify it.

All this being said, I am a sucker for an oriel window!

Thanks @Wauden. I will check out the planning permission and building regs issue. I wasn’t sure what sort of trade would deal with this kind of job (I imagine they’re usually done as part of extensions rather than a window replacement) so not sure who to ring for quotes.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience @Yellownotblue. I’m sorry to hear it didn’t turn out as you’d hoped - it looks great from the pictures though! I hope it’s not too stressful getting a resolution. Do you mind me asking roughly what it cost please and how you went about finding trades people to do the job? I’ve googled oriel window manufacturers but all seem to be hours away from me.
