Dehumidifiers

Can anyone recommend a really good dehumidifier? I air the house, keep a window open at night in the hallway but I’m wiping the windows every morning and our conservatory is particularly bad. It’s a 4 bed house. What would you recommend? I would like something cheap enough to run. Could buy one for up and one for downstairs. Help!

we use fans in the bathrooms (and have a window open while and after showering). We don’t dry many clothes inside as we use the dryer for most things.

We have an Envirovent in the loft plus a Meaco in the worst affected room.

The envirovent cleared 90% of the problem and the Meaco that last stubborn corner of the house on the gable end.

@OneRingToRuleThemAll can you tell me more about the envirovent? I’ve googled but wondering about prices!

We paid £2k ish about 3 years ago. It sits in the loft and vents to the outside so we forget it's there.

I’ve got an Ebac I think they are made in UK there are various different sizes depending on how big your house is. Mine was £250 but that was a few years ago

We have a 12l meacodry. Excellent little machine we just use it for drying clothes in the utility , think it uses about 200w per hour

@OneRingToRuleThemAll i think it’ll have to be a dehumidifier then. Don’t have spare thousands at the moment :-(

Bought Meaco ABC 12l low energy for DD's damp university flat. Seems to collect an awful lot of water. Desperately needed though as old Edwardian flat, with extensions built on, and cold even with heating on. She has to dry clothes inside too which doesn't help.

Meaco arete is my best little cellar dwelling friend. No idea if he’s actually helping anything but he collects loads of water and it makes me feel better about the damp situation so I absolutely love him

Keeps on top of the moisture. I'm going to get another for upstairs as they are cheap to run at a max of 180w.

My parents have loaned us theirs. They’ve used dehumidifiers for years. We had an issue with a damp patch around one of the windows. We’ve replaced some sealant and fixed the issue but wanted to try and draw out the damp. Our bathroom also gets very steamy and was developing some black mould which again we have got rid of. We’ve had it for 3 days and the damp patch is now completely dry and the atmosphere feels a lot more comfortable. It drains loads of water.

For anyone wanting one for a colder space (a garage for example) you need a different type- like you do with freezers.
