Recommendations sought for builders in Leeds area

We are looking to get two walls knocked through in our Victorian property, possibly some dividing doors installed and maybe a few other jobs (plastering/skimming, that sort of thing).

Does anyone have builders they can recommend based in Leeds or surrounding areas? We'll probably also need a structural engineer so any recommendations for those would also be appreciated!

We don't know that many people locally who've had this type of work done (and those who had didn't necessarily have a great experience so hoping to avoid this!).

I'd give an architect a ring. They can help with both.

Thanks justasking111. How much do architects charge and would we definitely need one? It's just a case of knocking through two walls, no extensions or anything too complicated. I'd hoped we'd be able to just employ a structural engineer and a builder + labourers.

Usually a visit is free. A phone call certainly is. Is the wall load bearing?

Try having a chat with building control as well

Thanks justasking111. One of the walls is load-bearing (hence I figured we'd need a structural engineer to work out how big of a steel we need), the other isn't. Of course we'd get both walls checked to make sure the second is definitely not load-bearing.

Yes, good point about building control. We'll definitely need to get them involved to sign things off.
