Typical water bill for a 3 bed house?

Heya,

I just recently moved to a new house. A 3 bed semi. It's my first house. Before, I only ever lived in flats.

I'm curious what your typical water bill is for a similar house?

I got my first water bill and i am a bit surprised... at sbout £60/month, it's almost double what we used to pay in our 2 bed apartment! I get it needs to be higher, but double?? It's the same people living here so technically the same consumption... The property is unmetered.

Does this sound about right or did they possibly make a mistake?

We are with Affinity. We had to switch to a meter,no choice. For 2 years they ran them side by side to prove to us that it was better to have a meter. Unfortunately during those 2 years 2/3 were at university. They came home & Covid hit just as the meter kicked in. I can tell you it wasn't cheaper. Now there are just 2 of us I'm assuming it will be less. We only seem to get a bill every 6 months. I've just checked & it was about £45/month for 5 of us & said we used more than average for a house our size (4 beds, 5 people).

Op,are you sure that’s just water and not water and sewage?

Sorry, yes, water and sewage, they are on the same bill for us (issued by the water company). Is it not the same everywhere?

I'm on a meter and pay £60 a month. Three bed terrace and four adults.

No meter here and it’s £96 a month for 10 months of the year in a 3 bed semi, that includes sewage. It’s Yorkshire Water.

On a meter in an area where it is more expensive than Thames Water.

£60 per month for 5.5 adults most of whom either have a lot of long showers or baths. Lots of sports so lots of laundry.

3 bed £38/mth

Just DH and I (with a newborn) and ours is £20ish something. 3 bed semi with two bathrooms and a WC

3 bed house, 2 adults, 2 teens, paying £200 every six months unmetered.

We’re Thames Water, moved into our 2 bed flat and got sent such a high bill! Requested a meter (you can just do it online you don’t have to contact them directly). Got fitted very quickly and significantly reduced our bills and now we’re always in credit actually

Thesearmsofmine · 22/10/2022 23:17

Reading this thread has made me consider requesting a meter. We seem to pay so much more than everyone else and I have no idea why?!!

RidingMyBike · 23/10/2022 08:48

We recently bought a house that wasn't on a meter and were utterly horrified at the estimated bill we were sent - far far higher than anything we'd ever paid in a metered property. It was a six week wait to get a meter installed but worth it to get the water bills down!

AnOldCynic · 23/10/2022 08:51

@TheFlis12345 you should get a discount if you can't get a meter fitted?

Onlyhereforchaletschool · 23/10/2022 08:54

2 bed semi. 2 people. United Utilities on a meter £40 a month.

Startuplife · 23/10/2022 08:55

When we first moved into our 3 bed semi, our water bill was £47. Now that I’ve located our meter and started to give readings it’s about £28.

However, there are only two of us and DP literally comes home from work, goes to bed and gets up and goes to work again 6 days a week so the majority of the time it’s just me. I’m sure it would be higher if we had kids.

Oh wow really? Thanks, I will look into that.

SwayingInTime · 23/10/2022 10:58

CambsAlways · 04/02/2023 22:08

StarbucksSmarterSister · 05/02/2023 02:47

One person, 2 bed house, second most expensive water authority in England according to the supplier. Power shower, dishwasher, washing machine.

It costs me around £25 per month.
