here. dh and I are really up for this moving lark (plan here and the other day I found this - it's perfact. not the same village as dm and db but very close. and in every other respect it's just ideal. but it's gone . and apparently houses like it come up for rent very rarely. feel free to find us an alternative...if you like browsing the web for houses that is...

That's gorgeous. Orchard

McDreamy · 24/01/2008 11:19

Aww I am so sorry. We have also found a house we love. DH is flying home this weekend just to view it, I love it but trying not to pin all my hopes on it!! Just got my fingers crossed. This property lark is stressful isn't it?

Lovely part of the world, Hatwoman!

bran · 24/01/2008 11:29

What does "under reference" mean? Does it mean that it has been let subject to prospective tenants' references checking out?

It is gorgeous. I've never been to Derbyshire, but have often though I would like to.

Lazycow · 24/01/2008 11:36

Blimey that is a fantastic house for £1,200 a month, no wonder it went quickly!

I don't really know Derby well enough to help much a I'd probably give you a link to something miles away. Rightmove doesn't have much at all within 5 miles of this village for rent at this sort of price.

this - but smaller and less nice than the one you found www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-18781481.rsp?pa_n=1&tr_t=rent

This but probably miles away
www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-9698628.rsp?pa_n=1&tr_t=rent

But then I'm sure you know this - not much use am I sorry!

Maybe someone from the area will come along and have some ideas

hatwoman · 24/01/2008 11:40

yes bran - it means exactly that. I spoke to the estate agents and she said that if it does fall through she'll ring us.

I am so excited now about our plan - I really want to do it. and this place would have been so good. My uncle lives in the same village and although it's not the same village as mum it's about 10 mins closer to the nearest big station for London and to the M1. and it's the only village in Derbyshire (i think) with a Michelin-starred restaurant. one can;t entirely do away with such things...

hatwoman · 24/01/2008 11:41

yep lazy cow - for the different in rent between somewhere like that in Deryshire and our 4-bed in London we'll be able to afford the Michellin-starred restaurant...

SmartArse · 24/01/2008 11:43

Flippin 'eck -that's gorgeous!

Are you going to commute into London, then?

hatwoman · 24/01/2008 11:54

occasionally - plan is we both work from home but will need to go to London sometimes - me probably one day a week. dh would have to do it less often but probably in chunks of several days - but he'd get put up in a hotel.

OP posts:
SmartArse · 24/01/2008 11:56

You are SO lucky! We keep planning our getaway, but can't seem to do it - probably because I can't do my job from home and DH needs to be in London at least 3x week!

Good luck with it all.

hatwoman · 24/01/2008 12:03

the thing is we're hedging our bets - which is why it suddenly seems like it might happen. we actually like where we are - and we think it would be a great place for teenagers. so with that in mind we've been thinking, realistically, we never will "get away" but then it dawned on us that people go away for a couple of years to exciting places around the world, rent their houses out and come back.. well we're doing the same thing - but to give the girls a bit of countryside while they're still young enough to enjoy it, rather than go half-way across the world. suddenly it seems like a far less daunting prospect. if we like it we can always stay.

hatwoman · 24/01/2008 21:57

just shamelessly bumping in case anyone feels like sorting my life out ...have been hunting but not really getting anywhere.

OP posts:
EachPeachPearMum · 25/01/2008 00:26

Of course it's gone...because it's mine..all mine... bwahhhahhah!

well, it is excessively gorgeous! Hope all goes well with the move

Lubyloo · 25/01/2008 23:46

That's lovely Hatwoman. I love Baslow. In fact I will be driving through it tomorrow so will look out to see if I can see it!

hatwoman · 26/01/2008 00:15

I know lubyloo. I keep going back to it and, in a rather uncharitable way, hoping the person who's got it is some fly-by-night with a bad credit record. it's probably a very nice family, but in my mind it's a rather unpleasant single man with dodgy business dealings. an arms dealer perhaps. or someone who's ripped off a load of pensioners with dodgy financial products.

OP posts:
bellabelly · 26/01/2008 00:33

Oooh, if you move to Baslow you can eat at Fischers (think that's the name) every night, hoorah! Bet Bakewell where i used to live will have loads of rental places and is really not far....

hatwoman · 26/01/2008 00:37

yep - already mentioned Fischers . I've been trawling for rental properties in about a 10 mile radius and there's very little. if you lived in Bakewell you might be able to help me actually. what's Ashford-in-the-Water like? much to my shame I don;t really know (though I grew up in the Hope Valley area). I have a feeling my mum says it's extremely pretty but full of tourists. is that right?

OP posts:
hatwoman · 26/01/2008 00:42

because there's this one going. but tbh, I think it's too far from my family.

OP posts:
bellabelly · 26/01/2008 00:47

It's near to Bakewell but I don't think I ever went there! It is supposed to be very pretty indeed but I bet your mum is right about full of tourists in summer. Mind you so was Bakewell.

bellabelly · 26/01/2008 00:48

The A-in-W house does look very lovely though.

1dilemma · 26/01/2008 00:53

lovely house great idea good luck
(just wondered when I saw the linkwhether it was financially viable but that is a great house for the money)
like you I wasn to take dcs out of London now as small children and ?bring them back as teenagers

hatwoman · 26/01/2008 00:54

full of tourists in summer and full of water in winter .

OP posts:
Lubyloo · 26/01/2008 22:24

Have you seen this one Might be a bit far out though.

hatwoman · 27/01/2008 20:59

thanks lubyloo but it's not near enough to family. nice though.
