Living in 2 places

Hi all, really need advice. My husband and I moved 2 years ago to Scotland and although we love many aspects of the place it's not 100% right. I don't think our dream exists on our budget. However, I've recently been wondering whether we could live part time in 2 locations instead? We really like the social aspect and the coast of Whitby ( been many times over the years) and thought we might do 2 weeks there and 2 weeks in the very nice, but very rural home in Scotland. Am i being daft?? The more I think about it the more I fancy giving it a go as it would provide us with the lifestyle we like. My husband can work anywhere and our kids are independent so we have no restrictions really. I've looked at the financial aspect of it and think it's possible on our budget. It would mean a 3.5 hour drive but when in either place we wouldn't really use transport so better than the commute we used to do. Anyone here done something similar?? Or have any views on living in Whitby?

I love Whitby. Wondering what you gain in this scenario from keeping the Scottish place? Whitby isn't exactly urban-tastic so sure you could get somewhere around there that's rural enough but also gives you the social side. Unless you actively want to live in two places and have all that travelling (and cost/hassle of a second home), then I don't think it makes sense for two places that aren't all that different. Makes more sense if it's, say, a city flat and a seaside home.
