A loud banging sound in the kitchen!

DH and I were just sitting in the lounge when we heard a very loud banging or almost like a small explosive sound from the kitchen
We both went to investigate but lights, switches and appliances all seem fine
I am really nervous now what could it be

Don't worry, it's not your electrics, just a ghost.

( Actually, no idea)

Parkingt111 · 14/09/2022 21:14

I'm really worried now what could it have been

Air lock in boiler? Run your taps and see if any splutter. Otherwise its one of those big house spiders wearing hobnail boots.

Parkingt111 · 14/09/2022 21:21

OK il ask my Dh to check he's just gone out
I'm too scared to go back in the kitchen again honestly it was really loud we both jumped in fright
I thought something had exploded in the kitchen

Shelf collapsed in one of the cupboards?

userxx · 14/09/2022 21:22

My fridge does this.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 14/09/2022 21:24

Rat or mouse? Have had the same and that was the issue.

Parkingt111 · 14/09/2022 21:29

I can't imagine a rat or mouse being capable of making such a loud bang

Something fallen inside a cupboard or in the fridge? Or a chopping board or something slid down behind something suddenly and is now out of sight so not obvious?

inappropriateraspberry · 14/09/2022 21:33

Our fridge freezer sometimes has a loud bang or pop noise. Almost sounds like a lump of ice cracking, but it's frost free!

Megifer · 14/09/2022 21:36

Empty coke/drink bottle popping? They can sound very loud!

Mushroomlady · 14/09/2022 21:40

My kettle exploded once and made a very loud bang.

Parkingt111 · 14/09/2022 21:41

I suspected the kettle at first but it seems fine I'm going to put it down to something falling in the cupboards but too scared to have a look right now
I will check in the morning

My fridge/ freezer does this every now and then.

ultraviolet4753 · 14/09/2022 21:46

Bird flying into the window? Extractor fan rattling with the wind?
Cat knocking something off, or mop falling over?

Usually the cat involved here 😒

vipersnest1 · 14/09/2022 22:00

My vote is for a sound coming through your cooker hood / extractor.

PeasInOurTime · 14/09/2022 22:07

I think bird hitting the window too - it makes such a loud noise!

Is it a Samsung ? They're know for it!

mossberry · 14/09/2022 22:53

Is your boiler in the kitchen? If so, it might be kettling.

johnd2 · 14/09/2022 22:55

Can exploding in the freezer?

FireSideCat · 15/09/2022 00:43

Sometime a hot baking tray cooling in the oven can pop out of shape as it cools - bang. Failing that call a Priest.

ScotInExile · 15/09/2022 00:56

Have you checked inside the oven? Sometimes the inner glass panel in the oven door can shatter which makes a pretty loud noise.

DIYGuy · 14/02/2023 18:14

I have experienced this now three times. It's like a large electric spark discharge with a lightening flash and a loud bang. Happens in the proximity of dishwasher and freezer. There is also a weak smell of burning immediately after the bang. Have checked the appliances and they seem to be working fine and none of the electric fuses have been tripped. Started happening only recently but the appliances have been their position for a number of years. Someone must be able to expalin this.
