Gloss or satin for cupboard doors

So a family member has sanded and painted one of our rooms skirting, windowsill and built in wardrobe doors, he's used a satinwood but it looks abit dull? I'm worried it's going to mark easier than gloss although I know gloss can yellow over time. I'm not too fussed about the skirting but would have liked the windowsill and cupboard doors a nice gloss finish.

Which would you think is best for the other bedroom?

I'd only use matt eggshell tbh

As long as it was a proper wood paint, there’s no reason it should mark more than gloss. Rather less in my experience. I would always have a satin finish, les dulling than matt, more natural than gloss.

I see gloss as being a bit 80s, so always go for satin.

Thank you. I understand about the gloss, it just looks dull, the skirting as I said I don't mind that but the cupboards doors more than anything just look like they've been primed rather than anything over them ?

Sometimes I think it’s absolute lack of paint layers that make wood look dull in satinwood. I too think gloss is old fashioned unless it’s a finish like a laquer.
Modern paints are formulated to be hard wearing so don’t worry about wear. I also think that a chipped gloss surface would be harder to repair.

Eggshell

Satin over gloss for me

Never gloss, it’s very dated I think.

Agree with every one else, gloss looks very dated. I would always choose eggshell but if you have to have a sheen, satin is better than gloss.

We have our cupboards painted in eggshell. They look lovely.
