Hi, as above I am at my wits end with this smell from my bathroom sink. It started as a rotten eggs smell a month ago and now smells like rotten vomit, smell is worse if you flush the loo!!!! I have tried everything to shift this smell, bicarb, vinegar, caustic soda, sink unblocker and odour ones and it still persists.

Do I have to move? It's been a month now.

Blocked drain?

ChimChimeny · 06/09/2022 09:03

If our outside drain (the bit where the kitchen sink goes outside) gets blocked/grim the smell travels up to the sinks/bath. It's usually leaves getting stick on the grate thing even with a cover

Had a look down the manhole, drains are clear and running fine. Yes, I will try the sink unblocked stuff down the sinks downstairs just in case. I will have to check the traps it might be that, I have put the same drain cleaner down the shower drain too. It has only happened since we had some pipes diverted when we had the house remodelled.

The only thing that I have found to work (although haven't ever tried sink unblocker) is washing powder poured down the plug hole then washed away with boiling water from the kettle. Repeat a few times and it works wonders here.

Pouring more and more chemicals and cleaning products into the system won't do anything if the problem (most likely) is a missing valve letting the sewer smell into your bathroom. We have it too. Try the water suggestion made by above poster.
