Valspar colour mixing at B&Q

Probably a daft question but I have a stick on paint swatch from another brand, can I just take it to them or should I cut a square from it with no branding showing, will it be an issue at all?

Separate rant, it's taken 10 days for the bloody swatch to arrive in the post so I don't have time to order their paint online, and need B&Q to mix it today.

Thanks

Just take it in, it’d fine. I just hand them farrow and ball brochures.

ColeensBoot · 02/09/2022 12:03

Should be fine

Lonelycrab · 02/09/2022 12:12

If you can I’d do it properly, go to Brewers and get Johnston’s trade, they’ll colour match to F&B using the proper codes. It’s better quality paint than Valspar.

Summersdreaming · 02/09/2022 12:24

Thanks all, it's not F&B it's a Dunelm one, I didn't even know they had a paint range until I saw the swatch.. I'm sure valspar will be similar quality. Not too fussed though I've used nearly every brand and type of paint during this reno and it doesn't make a noticeable difference to how much I dislike painting 😂

Thanks again!

Just googled but there are none within an hour of me, thanks though.

Yes although my experience of it wasn't great. I wanted a nice yellow for an outside wall. I was thinking birds custard and got high-vis.

kerosene20 · 02/09/2022 12:29

We have both Dunelm paint and mixed valspar and the Dunelm is better quality if you can just get that?

HollyBollyBooBoo · 02/09/2022 12:33

I wasn't impressed with Valspar colour match at all, was nothing like it.

MRSAHILL · 02/09/2022 12:43

I'm another that wasn't impressed with Valspar colour match. I was assured by B&Q that if I didn't like the colour after using it then Valspar would honour their guarantee and replace it free of charge. The colour I got was nothing like the sample card. Valspar blamed B&Q, who agreed with me when I showed them the colour in the tub and a photo of my garden furniture, but sent me back to Valspar for a refund. This guarantee is not worth the paper it's written on, Valspar customer services were horrible, looking for every reason to get out of honouring the guarantee. I gave up in the end but did a review on trust pilot and wasnt suprised to see I was one of many with the same complaint.

Summersdreaming · 02/09/2022 13:45

Oh bugger 😐I'll get a tester made up today then go back tomorrow morning. If it's not right I'll have to scrap it and paint the bloody room magnolia. Thanks for the heads up.

I can't wait for delivery (joiners and carpet fitters booked) and the nearest stores don't stock it 😫 bloody royal mail strike delayed the swatch by a week.

THANK YOU! You made me double check, swatches were delivery only but 4 tins are available for click and collect, there were none when I ordered the swatch. All sorted!

I didn't have a good experience either. I wanted a colour match for my wallpaper and brought them a large piece of wallpaper. The colour was a light grey. The lady showed me the match that the system had come up with and it looked perfect on the little card. But then when I got home and opened the can, I realised it was almost beige. I painted a little bit of the wall to see if it looked different when dry but it just looked like someone had painted the wall grey 30 years ago and chain smoked since. Luckily I only got a tester pot, otherwise I would have been fuming.

I was trying to match this

This was the Valspar colour that was supposed to match @

Valspar is a nightmare tbh. The actual paint is fine but (1) the colour match is awful, I got a refund and (2) it is sometimes impossible to actually get it mixed up because you go all the way to the store and then they don't have the right "base". I recently spent ages selecting some paints to get tester pots, queued up and then they only had 1 of the correct base pots. Total waste of time. I just don't understand why they don't have loads of tester bases in stock. It meant I went with another brand!

Kitty is not impressed with that colour match

Yeah this thread has put me off, really glad I've managed to get the original paint sorted.

@Summersdreaming no she really wasn't!

Thing is I was convinced it might mellow when it dried! - it didn't. Sometimes I think it's not so bad. I hate DIY and can't be bothered to change it but I won't be doing the Valspar colour match thing again.

Incedently, I too couldn't get it from my local branch because of the deep base thing.

Ilovefishcakes201 · 03/09/2022 05:46

Valspar isn’t a great quality.
If you dislike painting then you’re better off with a better quality paint as you’ll have fewer coats to paint.
Dulux or Johnson are great DIY paints and can be mixed at Brewers or most ‘decorating centres’

StrangerThisWay · 03/09/2022 06:12

Glad you've got it sorted. But just for record I'm another one who had a bad experience with Valspar colour matching. Wanted Dulux Buttermilk as we'd run short, B&Q was out of stock. Whilst I knew we wouldn't get a perfect match, it was a separate wall so thought we'd get away with it. It was miles out, a really muddy version of the dulux, and watery too. We did get a refund though.

Dulux is ok, the lighter colours have poor coverage though, Dulux trade is better, the best I've used so far is actually the b&q own brand Good Home, used it for dd's room and it was great. Will give this dunelm one a go and I'm not rushing to try valspar.

Really happy with the Dunelm paint, lovely colour, goes on well and nice coverage 👍
