What blinds for noise, light and warmth!

I am totally overwhelmed by blinds choice and hoping for some advice!

It is for a bedroom and there is traffic noise. The windows are also falling apart and do need to be replaced - but grade 2 listed so will only ever be single glazed.

I want something that is black out, blocks noise and also good for warmth.

A blind won't tick any of those boxes. No matter what is claimed by the manufacturer. For heat and noise I would go for very basic secondary glazing.

@BruceAndNosh oh I do love a belts and braces approach! My only concern with that would be that it might look quite bulky? I’m trying to keep the room quite simple

that said , it’s my first night in the room and I can feel the gusts of wind coming through the windows!

Blinds plus curtains don't need to look bulky.
If you want a streamlined look, use the same fabric for both. Avoid a gathered heading on curtain, use single pleat heading which is clean and simple, and the curtains fall into a elegant column

If you want to keep it looking as streamlined as possible I'd opt for a thermal blackout roller blind right inside the recess of the window the same colour that the walls will be painted (it'll almost 'disappear' when its rolled up,) and then a blackout interlined roman blind outside the recess that sits completely above the window when its open, just 'kissing' the top of the window (a lot of people seem to fit a roman blind then allow it to block the top 1/5 of their window). Make sure the roman blind has a decent overlap of at least 5cm left and right to keep drafts out as much as possible. However, I agree with PP that first and foremost what you need is secondary glazing (usually secondary glazing is ok for listed buildings, its uPVC double glazing that causes issues). Window dressings can help but they can only do so much!

What about shutters?

If you go black out blinds and curtains as PP suggested you don't have to go so generous with the fabric width for the curtains - eg 1.5x not 2.0x if you want to reduce bulk.

I'd always get black out or thermal linings on both - if you're getting made to measure there's usually a deal on...

Shutters would be lovely but I think a lot more expensive?

am going to look into inset roller blind then either Roman blind or curtain on top 😁
