Thinking of moving to Leek/Cheddleton. What's it like?

Does anyone live there? We have had lots of people (who don't live there) telling us that we should steer clear of Leek but when we have visited it we quite like it. The housing is better value and the schools seem very good. Just wondering why people seem so negative and would love to hear from the horse's mouth as it were!

Are there no mumsnetters that live near there then?

I love the town centre in Leek! It's like Emmerdale meets Charles Dickens! 😂

Haha that's an accurate description, thanks for replying.
I love it too, grew up there and want to move back now, but have children now so relocating is less straightforward, theyre 8 and 4 and im so nervous about them having to leave their friends and make new ones, Kids are resilient i know, but some are mean so theres no guarantees theyll be accepted by their new peers

How funny for this thread to suddenly pop up! Sorry I didn't see your post a few weeks ago. We ended up moving to Cheddleton in June 2008 and had a very happy nine years there. We were very pleased with the schools and loved where we lived. We relocated last summer with my husband's job and I still miss it!
