4.5m fitted wardrobes - need sliding doors though!

We’ve such a weird shaped room - long and narrow. The foot of the bed would only be 1 foot between that and the door of a planned wardrobe - due to this we need sliding doors.

Ive had a quote for 4.5k for supply of the wardrobe but the inside wasn’t as many drawers as I needed as the doors cannot open enough due to needing to slide over one another.

Has anyone ever custom built wardrobes of this size? Is there a better way of doing this? Not sure if you can buy freestanding ones to make up the full 4.5m width?

I'm no expert but have you looked at ikea pax systems? I think you can design to fit your space.

JustTheOneSwan · 24/08/2022 19:29

Don't Ikea pax go wide enough? Or two.

JustALittleHelpPlease · 24/08/2022 19:41

Pax come in 100cm and 50cm units

Tomnooktoldmeto · 24/08/2022 20:09

PAx actually come in 75cm too and with sliding doors would fit exactly

JustTheOneSwan · 24/08/2022 20:48

If you are looking at pax there is an Ikea discount voucher atm.

Thanks all, I’ll have a look. Is there are in store design service at ikea? I’m not sure I understand it enough to design it all myself

Yes you can custom design a pax in store. We've got two 100cm units with sliding doors, they're great.

Will the fact that the wardrobe is 4.5m long be an issue with the sliding doors being able to cross over one another? I used an online company that designed a unit but I couldn’t have drawers only shelves as the doors wouldn’t be open enough?

DS has a sliding door pax, with drawers. They're fine.

Have you looked at Sliderobes? We’ve had two sliding wardrobes installed with them and about to get a third which is about your length. They are very helpful with design layout and do all the measuring.

stclair · 25/08/2022 10:26

And we’ve got drawers in all of them

Tomnooktoldmeto · 25/08/2022 12:42

If you look at the ikea app or website you will see that they do drawers, basket drawers shelves, trouser sections and many others for all the wardrobe sizes

There are some fantastic videos on YouTube showing you how to build them, I’m disabled and DH is hopeless at DIY but we managed to build and fit sliding doors to them in 3 rooms

Tomnooktoldmeto · 25/08/2022 12:43

Oh and if you look on Pinterest there are hundreds of pins showing peoples PAX set ups in every possible variation

Parkingt111 · 26/08/2022 21:26

@JustTheOneSwan can I ask what the voucher is please

JustTheOneSwan · 26/08/2022 21:40

@Parkingt111 sure it's from MSE it's MONEYSAVING10 For 10% finishes on 29th and can be used in-store too.

Parkingt111 · 26/08/2022 21:41

Thanks alot

We used MySlidingWardrobes.
You can design it all online, and they can supply longer than the max size in the online design app. They were helpful when we phoned because we got confused.
You can choose the width of door. We have to open 2 to get to some of the drawers (ie slide 1 to the left and the other 1 to the right).

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 26/08/2022 22:51

Meant to say, ours are over 5m wide, and only just deep enough to hang a coat hanger, as it was an awkward shape with a sloping ceiling. That's narrower than they suggest, but it's OK.
