How do I get broadband quickly in new place?

I'm moving house and have been so busy that I forgot about broadband for the new place. Not so important for me, but it is a big deal for my sons.

I'm currently with Shell energy for broadband. Called them up yesterday and they said they need 14 days notice to switch me to a new property.

Does anyone know if other providers can do it (much) faster?

They all seem to take ages when you move. I ended up using my mobile provider for broadband as they offered me free data so I could hotspot while I was waiting to be connected.

We just called sky today, we are moving on Wednesday 17th, they said it would be monday 22nd but could happen before that.

Could you take over the connections already in the house?

Depends on what connections are already in the house.
I contacted Virgin on a Friday, after exchange. New router delivered Tuesday, up and running 30 mins later. We already had a virgin connection box in the house.

Basically, you need to find someone who just needs to post you a router, rather than come out and connect you up.

You can speak to mobile company and increase data so you can hotspot or get a mobile data contract for the new house, you can be set up in a couple days but you would need a mobile data router.

Most say it can be up to 2 weeks, though it might happen more quickly depending on how soon they get through allocated jobs, and if they actually have to visit you, rather than doing it remotely.

I'd call them now, to arrange for them to come on the day after you move (moving day will be manic). At my last house Virgin Media was connected within 5 days of the move, but that was because previous owner had also used them.
