Should we inspect gas and electric before exchange?

Our survey brought up one structural issue, which we've had looked at and are awaiting a quote for. The survey also advised us to get the gas and electrics checked throughout the house. The electrics check would mean the sellers giving access over two days. Would that be ok to request or would it seem too disruptive?
Generally, the house is in good condition.

I'd get anything gas serviced if it hasn't been done in the last 12 months (or request vendor does it for you)
It seems to be standard now for surveys to say get the electrics checked. How old is the house?
We got it done on our purchase but some of the electrics are from the 70s!

Bear in mind if they find anything serious it has to be remedied straight away by law so you'd have to agree with the vendor how that would work in terms of who pays.
If you are close to exchange it might hold things up arranging a date etc. Or vendors might just say no.

Surveys always recommend that, it is not normal practice to have gas and electrical checks

Our buyers had electrics checked in our previous house before exchange and we did the same in our to-be house, but not gas.
