Hi all,
Hope you are well. First time posting here!
I have a bit of a situation: I live in an old flat conversion (London, 1900s) and my bedroom has a constant mild smell of weed coming from next door. It gets stronger during most evenings. There's a gap between my floor and all along the adjoining wall with the neighbours, and I've figured out the smell is coming through here, as there is a definite weed smell if I put my nose down to it during the day, even if the rest of the room smells 'ok'. I'm assuming they are both growing and smoking in the adjoining room (as it gets stronger at night).
I can sleep through the smell, however, it's annoying, and I'm concerned about any longterm potential consequences to my health, as well as all my clothes/bedding ending up smelling like weed.
I could move, but rents have increased so much since after lockdown that I'd really rather stay put if I can resolve the problem. I don't want to speak to the neighbours about it because unfortunately they are not very nice people and once got quite aggressive when they were blaring music into their garden at 2 in the morning on a weeknight and I went over to ask if they would mind turning it down. My landlord won't help.
It would seem the most logical step would be to plug the gap somehow, however, I'm renting, so it can't be anything permanent. Would anyone have any suggestions for something I could stuff in the gap or cover it with that would be effective? I guess what I want to do is create an air seal on the gap without marking the wall or floor in the process.
I've attached a photo of the wall with a pen for reference, as you can see the crack is quite narrow, but runs all the way along the wall.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
