Removals cost south east?

We’ve been quoted £1500 inc vat to move less than ten miles away, no packing just removals with an 18ton lorry. (Medium sized 4 bed house)

maybe I’m out of touch but that seems a lot! Anyone else used a removals company recently in the south east, does this sound right?

My dp was quoted £600 (removals firm) for a 1 bed flat, moving within the same town. Ended up paying £200 for 2men and a van that we found on fb, he was really pleased with the service. Dp accepted that the cheaper option he chose meant it wasn't covered by insurance.

Seasidemumma77 That’s a good shout! I’m tempted to hire a van and ask someone friends to help, we’ve always moved ourselves before but thought I would be less stressful to hire a company but at these prices I’m tempted to do it ourselves!

The last time I moved (3 bed house) it was 100 miles, but it included packing the kitchen and living areas. Quotes vary A LOT and definitely try and get packing included if you can, it removes a huge level of stress. No way I would attempt to move with a Man + Van, too much hassle

We moved from SE to NE last year (4 bed detached with contents of garage and shed going 200 miles). We got three quotes and they were between £4.5k and £5.5k so yours sounds reasonable given it's only 10 miles?

whatshouldIdo2022 · 22/07/2022 10:18

We paid £2k to move a 3 bed house 200 miles away from the SE back in January, but I know people who paid nearly 1k to move a few miles as well.

I've just been quoted £895 to move a three bed house to somewhere 5 miles away (4 person team), with an extra £695 for packing.

I suspect the actual cost will be higher when they actually come round and see how much stuff I have though!

I'm in Suffolk and just been quoted roughly about £1500 to move about 2 miles and this includes packing service the day before and assembling of 2 beds at the new property.

NorthernChinchilla · 23/07/2022 18:14

We've paid £2.5k for our move in SE. Local (up the road) but full packing service, 4 bed to 4 bed and a fuckton number of large garden plant pots. Got 3 quotes and they were all in this ball park

Twilightstarbright · 23/07/2022 18:46

4 bed in Hertfordshire, moving in the same town was £1650 including packing. All the quotes were the same.

Beach1983 · 23/07/2022 21:37

Thanks for replies! Think I need to accept it’s going to cost more than I think (if we ever move due to NatWest being utter wankers) but that’s another story! 😵‍💫

Get a couple more quotes just to check? We had £1k between our highest and lowest quotes.

Sunsnowsun · 24/07/2022 09:43

I can understand your initial thoughts on it being just a few miles, as I literally just moved to the next road. However, the hard part is all the physically exhausting lifting and carrying to put your things in the van and then unpacking them at the other end. The driving part is the easy bit.

RupertTheCat · 25/07/2022 17:37

We are moving next week in London, moving less then a mile away and it’s 1400 including VAT, no packing.
we had various quotes ranging from 1200-2000

Perple · 25/07/2022 17:38

I think that’s cheap!
