Can you lay Amtico tiles without grout strip?

A friend has kindly given us enough of her leftover square Amtico tiles to do the floor in our downstairs cloakroom. They’re old but great quality but it’s just the tiles - nothing else.

Do I need to buy grout strip or can we lay them without it? Would that look weird?

We don’t have grout strip in ours. Have you looked at the brochure? Lots of photos with no grout strip! As attached!

Thanks - that looks fine to me. We would end up spending more on the grout strip than I would have paid for a vinyl remnant so I think I’m going to go for it 😉

Amtico tiles don’t have grout. You want them as close as you can to each other.

While it’s an ok job for a competent DIYer I’d look up how to lay them.

You need a flat, dry sub floor - so likely self level, then a primer for the glue, then the glue.

OP knows they don't have grout - but you can buy grout strips if that's the style you want to go for. It's not necessary though and I didn't use it. One thing I will say though is that dirt does naturally get into the space between the tiles and it's impossible to get out. I went for a white tile which I also regret as it makes it more obvious and with two dogs it just never looks clean!

We have a very similar floor to the one @TizerorFizz posted. In fact it looks identical.

When we had it fitted we asked for the same as the display board we were shown. TBH i had it in my head the grout strip was in but when i double checked it wasnt. We love it and the installer did say that he has seen the grout strips discolour too.

We don’t have cleaningissues without a grout strip. We have wood effect Amtico too with no grout strips and it’s clean and no problems at all in a high traffic area. I’ve had Amtico before with grout strips and found they were perfect so no problems with that either!

I did wonder about whether a light tile (ours are off-white) might discolour where they join, but this is a cheap job in a small room so if it last five years that’ll do me!
