Anyone got a mascerating toilet?

We've got a very small under stairs space (c120cm x 80cm) and now that we're having the hall and stairs done i'm considering a second toilet in there. I think we'd need a mascerating toilet. Would you bother or is it better to live with just one loo?

we have one as our main upstairs toilet (normal one down stairs out in cold utility room)

have had it for about 8 years and has never gone wrong.
Only put loo roll down it and you'll be o.k, also don't panic if it stays on longer after some flushes, it just needs longer to pump out.

Downsides are that they can get stinky, but a couple of flushes through with loo cleaner sorts it.

They're a pita.
I had one years ago in a rented flat, never again
cost a fortune to fix too when they go wrong

yes, we have one
they are v expensive - just had it replaced (the macerater wotsit) and it cost over 1K

the toilet, handbasin & plumbing etc cost us £1k to have installed by good plumber here in Surrey (where everything costs loads) and it was a tricky job as the toilet is at the very front of the house soil pipe inbedded in the wall, shared with neighbours at the rear of the house. We've had it 4 years and no problems yet.

I thought you meant one of those loo seats that slips to the side and bites your bum .

SpawnChorus · 13/01/2008 22:51

Ditto what WWW said. It was noisy too.

We have one downstairs. DS1 threw towels and pants and pens down it. My dad had to dismantle it (bleurgh emoticon) remove all the offerings, then out it back together again, but he lost a valve and now its really really noisy!

I keep reading this as 'mascarading' toilet, and am wondering what it is mascarading as....

Must go to bed....

CarGirl · 13/01/2008 22:57

ours is our 2nd loo and our main loo is in the only bathroom and there are 6 of us hence as a 2nd loo (only the girls tend to use it and they wash their hands there before meals etc) it's fine. I am paranoid about anyone putting anything in there though.......always got half an ear out when the youngest heads in that direction....

We have one in the downstairs loo - affectionatley know as "The talking toilet" - been there 8 years. No probs apart from the lego pieces that ds put down it. No smells. Ours is a Grundfos - quite noisy but you get used to it!

we have a saniflo loo in our cloakroom,i would definately recommend having one if there is no way you could have a 'normal' loo! only thing is you must'nt flush sanitary items down there. it is slightly noisy when you flush but this for only a moment and you soon get used to it.
