What to look for before moving in

Hello all!
we are in the mist of buying our new family home! Mortgage approved and valuations done.
the seller is very kindly opening up the house next week to let me and my mum look round :) I’m just so excited to see it again but obviously want to make the viewing worthwhile!
what little random things shall I look for? Look out for? Make notes off?
its empty now as they’ve already moved out :)

Congratulations :) lovely to be moving into your own home :)

I would flush all the toilets, check all the taps, including outside garden taps. Check all the keys are there for all doors, including back door, side gate, garage doors.

Open and close all the windows and doors. Look under the sink and check for damp patches.

Look inside the oven, does it need a deep clean?

Measure for curtains ?

Cornishmumofone · 15/05/2022 12:48

Note where the plug sockets are and whether you will need more

Locate the internal and external stop taps.

Have you had the survey done?
If not have a good look around that you want the surveyor to pay particular notice of. Stand across the road or end of the garden and look at the roof and chimney, gutters and downpipes. (If it's raining, check if the gutters overflow).

Take a builder with you if you want to do major renovation.

Ask about manuals for all appliance being left behind.
Take the plan and walk the boundary with a tape measure.
Put your head into the loft.
Walk the outside of the house looking at where the house meets the ground, the window frames etc.

If you are doing any of the moving work yourselves go in and work out a plan. Look at how many steps, is there a good place to just dump stuff where it won’t get in the way until you have a chance to sort it, stuff like that

Fab thank you all! Lots of good ideas!
I have put them all in a list as I will probably forget once in the house as I will be too busy just jumping round it lol!
We haven't had the survey done yet but should have a date for that this week hopefully! x
