New patio sliding door advice

Hi

Novice here but looking for some advice around sliding patio doors. We currently have french doors leading to the garden. We intend to replace these with large sliding patio doors (3 big panes of glass). The company who we want to supply the patio door have asked when they can come to measure the opening. The builder hasn't knocked through yet. What happens if the builder knocks through and there's a 12 week wait time on the doors to be installed - what happens to the massive opening for that time? Sorry if it's a stupid question!

Usually the builder would secure the opening with a temporary structure e.g. a sheet of OSB cut to size and held in place with batons.

Could you send your plans to the door company so that they can work from those and avoid a long lead time after the knock through is done? That's always the way my builders have worked and it's never been an issue.

Thanks that's super helpful! I have already sent the architect plans but they insist it's best practice to have a survey done. I'm just getting confused with whether survey can be done before or after the opening is created but sounds like, from what you've said, we can knock through and cover up if we need to. Great!
