Can I change how much deposit I pay?

I had an offer accepted on a house (yay!)
When I was bidding, I told the estate agent I had X amount as a deposit (about 13% of total price).

Now I am about to apply for the mortgage and realise I would actually prefer to put 10% deposit down and use the extra savings for decorating etc.

Can I do that? Will the seller know / care that I am applying for a larger mortgage than I said I would?

Yes, you can do that as long as your mortgage provider is happy. It’s of no consequence to the seller as long as the mortgage is approved.

Agreed, I did this. Was planning to put down 25% but ended up paying 20%. It was a different ltv bracket, so I had to pick a new ‘product’ in terms of the mortgage deal I wanted, but they had it sorted within a couple of days. Didn’t hold anything up.

Oh great, thank you both!

If you had told the EA you had 50% deposit, but actually had 10%, they might be annoyed, as you're more likely to have to pull out if the valuation comes back low.
13% to 10% is negligible so not worth worrying about.
