Posted this in chat but then thought maybe this is a better place....

Just reading a current thread running on here about moving has made me think this me a good place to ask for ideas on this.
We are looking to move to a different part of the country due to rising prices here and desperately needing a change of scenery. I have only just started looking but although I've found a couple I've liked both have had (well booked up) viewings within a short time that we couldn't possibly attend, obviously due to distance!

How do people relocate with viewing etc to a different location?? We have two young kids in school (& not unlimited fuel/accomodation funds!) so can't keep jetting back and forth when anything remotely interesting pops up... What does everyone else do?!

We recently did similar.

We would go on weekends and try and book 5-6 viewings a day. We could stay with family so that wasn't much of an issue but it wasn't ideal.

Alternative is sell up and go into rented.

Good luck!

We drove around the general area for a day where we thinking of moving to work out which town was more for us and in our budget. Then rented in that town whilst we looked at houses and during the conveyancing.

Rented first. Makes buying/selling easier to as minimises chain.

In this market, I think you rent for a year.

We rented and then looked.

We're relocating back to the UK in the summer, a house came up recently in a really popular area and DH flew over on his own to view it. My DParents also viewed it. We've had an offer accepted and I haven't even seen it, not sure if I'm crazy or not!

Thank you, everyone! Seems to split into moving over into rented first and doing weekends/holidays for viewings... Think we will be doing the latter! Not ideal but seems the only way.

Thanks again.

It’s difficult OP. The couple I bought my house from relocated 3 hours away and chose to break the chain and move into rented (and I probably paid 5-10k more than I would have otherwise for this house as no chain was worth it to me stress wise

In your situation, I would go up there as a family for a few days to do LOADS of viewings: not only to see properties but to meet all the local agents so they know you are serious. Could you also take a relative/friend who can help with the kids if necessary so you can really blitz it?

THEN I would divide & rule - 1 of you goes on the viewings and video calls the other from the house if needed. Rationale: you need to be quick off the mark for a good house, & also for seller to believe that 1 half of the couple is empowered to make the decision ie you won’t mess about for a few weeks then OH views and you decide you don’t like and pull out
