Regents Park in Southampton

  • Is Regents Park, in Southampton a nice area?

We currently have a lovely lifestyle up North, current home close to city centre amenities (easy 2 mile walk to city centre) and live in a very family friendly and cool, boho, vibrant suburb.

However. We are moving due to work.
Initially we were looking at other areas of Southampton, but we have found a house in Regents Park, which is close for our work (essential).

  • How are the schools (primary and secondary) by Regents Park?

  • Any recommendations for a local baby group?

  • Is walking from Regents Park to Southampton city centre, nice and possible? (One hour walk each way is cool for me when kids are at school)

  • Aside from Southampton Common, any recommendations on a nearer park to Regents Park to take baby & little ones (going to park by foot)?

The last question above, does concern me. The distance to Southampton Common on foot, to go there and back, would be too much for our youngest ones. And I’m stressing about parks or where I can take them locally on foot.

Also, on the last question above, (if the opportunity ever arises) when I have childcare to allow me to take maximum one hour for myself between school drop off and work, is there a local park that is great for adults to walk?
Due to squeezing between children and work, I don’t have time to make it to the Common. Is there such a park?

It’s many years since I lived in Southampton, but I think it’s a fair walk from Regents Park to the city centre - I reckon 45 minutes or so, and it’s hardly a scenic stroll…mostly straight down Shirley Road I’d have thought. Southampton used to have a reasonable bus service mind you. There used to be green area at the top of Shirley road though…Shirley Common? Shirley Ponds? Can’t quite recall…but that’d be closer than walking to the Common I’d have thought. Can’t help with your other questions though…I moved from the area almost 30 years ago. Where does the time go!!!
