Can I change a window to a door after PP

We have submitted for planning permission and awaiting the verdict.

In the proposed rear elevation, there is window along part of the back wall of the house overlooking the garden, which I am considering changing to either a full height window or a glass door. This would be in a slightly different position along the back wall - probably shifted along 50cm. The view from it won’t be over looking any of our neighbours.

Googling gives me the impression that this will be allowed under permitted development. Is that correct?

If you are still waiting for the decision then the planning officer would probably accept such a small change to the plans before the decision. You should just email them with the new plans and ask them to supersede the ones they have.
Alternatively you could wait for the decision then submit an application for a non-material amendment afterwards. There's a small fee for that but you'd then be able to do either option.
It wouldn't be permitted development if it's part of the proposed development only if it's completely separate from your extension

Thank you for such a quick reply, @Takingabreakagain
Do you know whether this is something we can do ourselves or we will have to ask our architect to do?
I have changed my mind so many times on the design that he must be pretty exasperated with me but it’s a huge amount of money and I want to get it right.

Has the architect submitted your application? If so they are the ones the planners will normally deal with. They will need to do you an amended drawing to send to the planner but you can send it in. It might be worth emailing your planning officer so they know you want to change the plans in case they are ready to make a decision

And don't worry about changing your mind architects and planners are used to that

Thank you, @Takingabreakagain - really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions

The previous advice is correct. If planning hasn't been decided your architect can submit an amended proposed drawing. Changing a window to door is a quite a simple job on the plans so I don't think they should be too aggrieved! I wouldn't change a window to a full length window/door without permission. We normally advise it's OK to make openings smaller but never bigger.

A lot of approvals have conditions stating that no doors or windows can be put in without prior permission in certain elevations and or will say 'the development must be constructed according to proposed plan 1111-XX' for example.

If you wish to change after planning permission is granted and a condition such as the above is granted you can submit a minor ammendment application to get permission for the change. Normally they have a shorter deliberation time and are quite straightforward.
