Secondary glazing

Moving (hopefully) to a house with (well restored) single glazed windows.

Over time will probably replace them as funds allow, but does anyone have any experience of secondary glazing? Thinking more of energy costs not noise.

Any other tips?

(Please don’t try to talk me out if it, we fell in love with it and is a done deal 😂)

LemonSwan, do you mind me asking roughly which area of the country you are in? (we are SE, seems to be a SE tax here 😂)

We are midlands :)

Thanks so much @LemonSwan, that’s really handy to know. I hope all goes well with the rest of your refurb. I thought I was decided on the secondary glazing but you've made me wonder again now! Joiner I spoke to about ours is coming back in two weeks so I might chat to him again. Argh but the wobbly glass though!

@Zooforhouse sorry for hijacking your thread a bit. I know you don’t have the house yet (!) but are you still leaning towards secondary glazing or has Lemonswan swayed you too?

I kind of am thinking retrofitting double glazing…..ive only seen the windows twice tho 😂

We moved into a house with secondary glazing and have ripped it out.

  • impossible to clean
  • bad for the windows
  • hard to open / close
  • made the house seem darker
  • blocked the original shutters in
