Can anyone help me choose a colour for kitchen cabinets.

We are repainting the kitchen. The walls are pale yellow over beige, divided by a border. The floor is red "quarry tile", and the counters are formica, sort-of like black granite with brownish flecks.

The cupboards are currently white. My wife would like them to be any colour except white, but what? There are lots of cabinets, 8 on top, 9 below.

My pictures don't do the wall colours justice, here are links to the colours:

(I have no idea why the pix in the preview are rotated anti-clockwise. Life is a mystery, as Madonna once sang.)

The colours showing up in your links are Nice Cream and Irish Cream. Neither of them is yellow. The Irish Cream looks actually quite pink.

Not what you're asking, but the border is a very dated decorating feature. It also sort of limits what you can do with the colour of the cabinets.

I would get rid of the border and paint the whole kitchen the pinkish beige, which would go with the floor and also the counter. The yellow doesn't seem to go with anything in the kitchen.

Then do a deep toned sage green for the cabinets. It would compliment the floor, the counter, and the beige walls.

Or do a deep teal green for the cabinets and sage walls (like F&B Cooking Apple) - ditch the yellow/beige and especially forget the border. You want something to balance the red quarry tiles and the dark counter.

Thanks for your prompt reply. The names of the colours are as you say. "Yellow" is my word for what the advertising people call "Nice Cream". The kitchen is my wife's kingdom (queendom?) and she likes the border... at age 80, she really doesn't want anything new-fangled.

If it was MY kitchen, I'd start with a wrecking ball and a sledgehammer, but I've been banned from the kitchen for many years.

If the border must stay and you don't want to repaint the walls, then I would do the cabinets in the exact shade of yellow/cream of the upper side of the walls except in gloss. Or the cornflour blue from the border for lower cabinets and cream for the upper ones.

Are you apinting the bottom cabinets too? How about the green from the border for the bottom cupboards and a nice cream colour for the top ones?
