Price of Crittall style steel doors (or alternatives)

I've been looking at Crittall type doors for my extension and have asked for quotes but not received any yet..
An article suggested the price will be about £3k per sq m which is 27k for a single 3x3m opening with French doors like the one in the picture. If you have similar, does that sound about right?
I've also looked at aluminium alternatives but the frame seems quite thick in comparison. Are there alu versions that relatively streamlined but also secure enough as external doors?
I'd really appreciate if you can share the price/supplier for your Crittall style doors. Thanks!

We’re looking at this style for our extension. Still at the quoting stage…

The cheapest quotes for Crittall-style aluminium doors and windows we’ve had in so far are from Marlin Windows and Clearway Windows & Doors. That was for three full-height (2.1m) panels/windows and three doors (4.8m total width).

Marlin quoted c£6k for supply only. Clearway quoted c£7.5k for supply and installation. They both use Smart Systems, one of two manufacturers I’ve heard of - the other being Aluco. The cheapest Aluco quote we had was from Nicholson Ltd and that was just under £7k for supply only / just under £9k for supply and installation. I don’t yet know if there are any differences in quality / thickness between Smart Systems and Aluco though.

We also got quotes for shaped glass above the doors (as we will be having a pitched roof) and that put the Smart Systems quotes up a bit (c£2.5k-3k) and the Aluco up a LOT (double). At that stage I thought I’d try Fabco Sanctuary as I saw a recommendation on here that they aren’t as pricey for steel as other suppliers. They quoted the same as the most expensive Aluco quote - c£20k inc installation for the original doors and windows plus the shaped glass above. (Would look something like this: www.modelprojects.co.uk/southgate-north-london-extension-renovation) So we’re tempted, as they will look gorgeous. But it’s a lot more than we planned to spend…

I never bothered as I knew crittal would be well out of budget. I was quoted about 7k for interior steel door with 2 x sidelights from a local steelworker!
My exterior doors are 4.7m x 2.2m.
I ended up with quotes for Aluco doors and sidelights for 7k, and Smart systems aluminium framed doors from Marlin Windows at 4.8k. Another supplier added top lights which took the price up a little but balanced out the look and this came to 5.5k. I asked Haus glass in Warrington and John Knight glass on the Wirral for the Aluco.

I sacked them all off and went with Cortizo minimal frame sliders for 7k in the end, I couldn’t get the crittal style configuration to work and my primary consideration was connection to my garden. Definitely made the right decision!

We used this guy (found through eBay)

They are interior doors, measuring 1.5x2.2m, and cost £2200 (3-4 years ago).

Super super happy with them. But they are interior doors so not double glazed.

Should add these are steel not aluminium.

We got the aluminium style ones that all the window companies offer for our external windows. And they look nothing like crittall and the frames are still very thick, although not as thick as uPVC.

@MsShopper - That's pretty much the style I'm going for (minus the vaulted part). Do you reckon that the Southgate house is aluminium or steel? If aluminium, I'd be fine with that look but not much thicker.. Like @puffylovett I'd prefer to have normal sliding doors if I can't get the right crittall look and it will obscure the garden.

@crittallQ - those are fabulous! I also need interior crittall so will out this option for sure.

@MsShopper - are you on the Extension thread? It's full of tips and tricks if you're early- or mid-build.

I've just seen on Instagram that the beautiful glass in the Southgate house is FabCo.

@NewHouseNewMe Ah thanks - I’m a bit of an Extensions thread lurker at the moment. Grin Will join once we have a builder confirmed. If any of them ever bother to quote that is! Hmm

I’d also prefer thin sliders over chunky ‘Crittall-style’ doors, but our footprint will be very similar to the one I linked to, so not sure that would work.

Following this as at choosing door stage too!

I love critall but think we will end up with sliders for cost.
