Wallpaper on one wall…?

I will be striping my bedroom and redoing the walls, ceilings and flooring. Currently I have decades of layering - artex, wallpapers, painted wallpapers and many different paint colours. To say I’m looking forward to finally having a nice, decorated room is an understatement.

I’ve never really been a fan of a feature wall but I am finding myself drawn to some of the designs by House of Hackney. I really don’t want the whole room done though. If I do it I will have a feature wall - the wall behind my bed. I can’t work out if I’m being blinded by the design and will end up hating it once it’s done OR maybe I will finally love a feature wall.

For this of you who dont like a feature wall - have you ever seen one that you thought, ‘actually - that’s not at all bad’?

Hi @HungryGhost I'm another House of Hackney lover! I was talked out of wallpapering one wall in my bedroom with Artemis on this very board. I don't regret it per se because I love my room now but I still wonder about it sometimes.

I think the suggestion if you're doing a feature wall now is that you have the rest painted in a colour that's in the wallpaper pattern and have it on all the walls and possibly even on the wood.

I’ve never seen a feature wall I like. I especially hate them teamed with brilliant white woodwork instead of a colour that picks up the wallpaper colour so the room looks properly done. I LOVE a fully wallpapered room – but I think HoH designs are very much created with feature walls in mind, or for massively proportioned grand Victorian sitting rooms for blingy “jewel-coloured velvet sofa” style.

@HungryGhost
Yes a schnauzer! A rather plump one Grin

Yes the blue I want picks out the blue flowers in the paper, a muted mid blue (can’t remember but something like celestial blue or James from LG or bridge blue/Bedford square from mylands). One of those worked really well with the light in that room against the paper.

I am not keen on feature walls at all, provably because this house had a 'feature wall' in every room when we bought it. I much prefer a simpler more cohesive scheme. Although I do like a fancy wallpaper and one of our bathrooms has a beautiful wallpaper in it now (the room was magnolia before).

I think if you are just doing the bit behind the bed make sure your walls, wardrobes and woodwork are painted a colour that is in the wallpaper, I'd go with the pink or green. Then have some small highlights in the blue, maybe the bedside lights and a throw on the bed or a cushion on a chair.

Yes, we have very recently put a feature wall in our bedroom and I really like it. Ironically we started with a room of Artex like you said you currently have - but in dirty Wedgewood blue - and it looked awful.

I'm pleased to have a whole load of storks to look at now when I am lying in bed! We have done it on the chimney breast opposite the bed so it is like a huge picture, rather than having it behind the bed. Although it does seem more often people do have it as a feature wall behind the beds. Here is a pic of mine...

@CovoidOfAllHumanity

This is my jungly paper
@CovoidOfAllHumanity

I love your jungle wallpaper – it reminds me of Where the Wild Things Are 😄

We have HoH Florika on our chimney breast with F&B Inchyra Blue on the walls. I love it but appreciate that my taste runs more to 'Victorian luxe' than 'Scandi minimalist' 😂

I did two feature walls. Both my living room/dining room (through room) and my bedroom have two walls papered and two walls painted in a colour picked out from the paper.
I love it. It means that it isn't such a big deal when furniture is put in front, nor does it look overly fussy. The two walls papered are the ones with no windows. I paint the windowed wall, and the opposite. I can't attach a pic as I've a sleeping kitty on me right now so can't take one. I only have them where you can see one side of the room!

I'm with Thismustbemydream. Papering two opposite walls looks much better than just one feature wall in a room where being fully papered would feel too much. We have papered behind the bed and the opposite chimney breast. The window wall and wall opposite are painted the same shade of white as the wallpaper background. Lots of pictures on the plain white wall.

White bedding and built in wooden wardrobes. Curtains and bed cushions/throws pick out shades in the paper.

Paper similar to this:
