... and needed a two bed house, needed to relocate somewhere cheaper, clean, safe area with good local primary. Where in England would you move to to start a new life? Not Newcastle or surrounding areas! Extended family location not an issue!

Shropshire or Mid Wales. Great transport links, beautiful countryside, excellent schools and can be at the beach in an hour.

Thanks everyone.

We love being close to the sea but I'm not sure what we want is achievable. We love countryside but also like plenty to do not too far away. Shops, cafes, restaurants, good primary schools, good transport links.

I've heard Wales mentioned... does anyone have any suggestions?

East Riding of Yorkshire, Market Weighton, Pocklington, half way between Hull and York, and 40/50 minutes from the coastal towns of Hornsea, Bridlington, etc. Easy access over the wolds to North York Moors, Scarborough, etc. Good access via M62 to routes heading south.

Best value houses, west Lancashire. Specifically skelmersdale. Great transport links and super easy to get to Southport, Wigan, Manchester, Liverpool. Lots of green space and currently under going a development boom and house prices are on the rise. Plenty of outstanding primary schools. 180k would get you a lovely house but you could spend much less. The Ashurst area ( roads begin with L and M) is nice and has 4 good/outstanding primaries and is very close to two senior schools too.

What about Shrewsbury? Lovely place and very good value, easy access to lots of countryside but plenty to do.

NE Lancs. Lovely countryside, some of the smaller towns where if you're careful about avoiding the rough areas, you can get something really nice with 2 beds on the edge of town but still close to the shops for that.

I second Shrewsbury, just moved here last August. Stunning place to live with houses within your budget as @Heronwatcher has linked. Good schools, lovely community, lots of independent shops, the river, lovely walks, Wales nearby for even more walking......fab!
