Hi there,

I have a 18 month old and another on the way and we are looking to buy our first home. However we are having a mare on location!
I work at White City/Wood Lane and my partner works near Kentish Town. This is our first hurdle!

Secondly my family are from Derbyshire, and his family from Brighton...Our second hurdle!

Having had our first kid without any support network around (we currently rent in Wimbledon) we are both keen to be closer to at least one of the families (obviously I would rather it be mine, especially as my mum is retired!). So far we have considered areas of Hertfordshire and in the South, Walton on Thames.

Its so hard to juggle as we only have a budget of around £550,000 max, and neither of us want a horrific commute. We are finding some parts of Hertfordshire works better for one and then it's hideous for another from a commute perspective!

Any ideas welcome....!!xx

I don't have any suggestions, but we used this commute time map when we were moving - you can add multiple destinations and how long you're willing to travel, to see what overlaps: app.traveltime.com/

If you have to commute Derbyshire is way too far though? Beyond the Home Counties Northamptonshire is often quite good value, but it’s a major commute and is no where near Derbyshire.

If your partners family is Brighton, then go along the coast to Worthing? That’s quite good value, and should work if you can do a couple days at home. If you want a v fast commute and good value you are probably best looking East.

Staying close to where you currently live is this option

But going from south to Kentish Town each day isn’t a lot of fun.

The commute to white city isn’t great either! But you are in the right place for Brighton family, and in a nice area.
