Credit card after mortgage offer

Mortgage offer has been received but we are yet to exchange or even complete.
Can I get a credit card now for a big purchase and would it have any impact on the house purchase?

I would like to know too. Ironically it is my mortgage lender (who I bank with) that keeps sending me long 0% offers Hmm and it would be very handy to start our refurb. Feels like a trap Grin

I think the general advice is not to as they can do another credit check prior to releasing the funds and at that point you really don’t want any hiccups if having that new credit meant they would see the application any differently.

I wouldn't risk it
The only time I got turned down for credit was when I'd opened a new bank account which put a big flag on my report for 6 months
The account didn't even have a credit card or an overdraft so I really wouldn't risk taking out any credit until you complete on the house

I was worried about this too so waited till completion and then applied the day after.

Got the card within a week.

Wait until after complete. As another poster said, banks may still do another credit check

Tee20x · 12/12/2021 15:52

Don't risk it just incase they do another check.

It will be fine, unless you run up a shed load of debt before completion.
