Is this something I can get through regular home insurance (insure it as a temporary outbuilding or something?) or do I need to go through a separate specialist company, does anyone know? Thanks

It's a shed.
Should be covered under your standard home insurance policy.

Our is covered as an outbuilding on our main home insurance, but there’s a clause excluding electrical goods over the value of £300 each. This is fine for us, DP brings his laptop into the house overnight and just leaves his monitors and printer etc out there. I imagine you can have more expensive electricals added to your policy at cost.

Standard house insurance with garden room/shed included. You might have to describe the construction of it though.

Ok thanks that's good to know. It's wooden, it was here when I bought the house and I have no idea what its value is so not sure what to insure it for hmm.

Replacement value. Have a look at similar size and construction on web sites. I think ours would be £10,000 to replace.
