Boiling water tap - who is right?

Dh wants one in new kitchen. Because it's cool I think.

I think it's expensive bollocks that we don't need and would potentially be dangerous for future grandchildren.

Who's right?

It's not a question of right or wrong is it? It's a matter of opinion!

Personally I agree with it's expensive bollocks that we don't need but it ain't a hill I'd choose to die on!

Like you I only have potential grandchildren.

I would miss it, especially for cooking and running things under it, such as a tea spoon I've just used or a bit of the cloth I want to wipe the table down with.

Have had them at work and they are very useful. Can't blame him for wanting one. Think most of them have a childproof feature; you wouldn't want an adult turning it on accidentally either.

I hate them. Splatter boiling water at you, and take up a cupboard underneath. Tea tastes funny! I wouldn't worry about children though, they're pretty safe, just not worth it!

I am putting one in my new kitchen and I can’t WAIT. I hate clutter on the counter so very glad to get rid of the kettle.

No tea tastes great if you get one that actually does BOILING water. I've lived in three houses with them and the only one that gets water hot enough for tea is a Quooker

I would get a quooker in a heartbeat.

Oh and they're fine for children as they have a child safe turn on thing. So safe in fact, DH struggled.

I have a Quooker and can confirm it makes perfect tea although, because it doesn't come from a kettle, my MIL reckons it doesn't. Until she saw the new tap she had no issues.
I can't see an issue with toddlers.

For me too! I'm in Scotland though and there's definitely a different taste to the cup of tea. I can 100% tell whether a kettle or the tap has been used (DH has tried to catch me out a number of times fool) by the taste alone.

Okay my DD has one. On the first of many visits I couldn’t figure out how to run it.
This time I did! While filling up the sink to do dishes. Bubbling spitting boiling water spewing out of the tap. Insanely dangerous in my eyes.

Your DH is very right. But it must be a Quooker.

I have a grohe, it's amazing. No waiting, no splatter and great tea.

I didn't want one. Thought it was expensive and not as good as a kettle.

Quookers are amazing.

I agree, takes up a lot of room under the sink. We also live in a hard water area so plumber put us off, said it wouldn’t last long. If you want water to heat quickly for cooking, induction hobs are amazingly quick, we had one installed a few months back, absolutely recommend.

I wouldn’t want one. Load of faff.

I love them. So convenient. Not dangerous for small children - much less so than a kettle, certainly. And even if children did somehow manage to turn on the boiling water, they’d move their hand! It’s a far safer situation than pulling over a boiling kettle (my friend’s son did this and was in hospital for months….)

I have an Intu tap, £299 so cheap, and it doesn't take up much room underneath. I love it and wouldn't go back to a kettle ever!

It’s a gadget. It has its uses, but you have to compromise on your kitchen storage as it takes up a cupboard, if you’re in a hard water area it’ll break down fairly quickly, and the decent ones cost around a grand. So if you’re e.g. having a new kitchen for say £10k then is 10% of that worth paying for a tap and the loss of a cupboard?

Mine isn’t quite boiling but I think the tea tastes fine. They are great for cooking as well, like pasta or frozen peas. DH moans about the tea taste though, so if ours broke, I would probably get a properly boiling one.

I live in a hard water area and I've had a Qooker for coming up for 10 years. I've descaled it once in that time, it's not very difficult. I drink buckets of tea, it's great for filling pans etc. I absolutely love it. Your husband is right.

We have one. Yes it was more expensive than a standard tap but I love it and the convenience, it's great.

You'll need to drop the "dangerous" argument though as every single model has some sort of lever you have to push and turn or hold and turn at the same time, it's impossible to turn on accidentally.

I was sceptical too but DH wanted one so we got a Quooker when we redid our kitchen. It's amazing. Tea tastes fine, its childproof, just so, so useful. The only time I miss the kettle is when I want a big pan full of boiling water as its more awkward to lift the pan from the sink to the hob than to take a kettle to the hob. It only takes up about a quarter of the undersink cupboard. Ours also provides normal hot water which is a big improvement as our tank is miles from the kitchen and it used to take ages to run through.

We got one recently. We did say today that it’s a ridiculously expensive tap. You can buy a lot of kettles for a £1000. We also have an induction that boils water quickly for cooking.

On the other hand…it’s a Qooker, I drink a lot of tea and the tea is the same as from a kettle. I was worried about that. It uses up a third of a cupboard underneath, we got the smaller tank. It’s impossible to turn on by a accident.

It’s our only tap. Friend is getting normal taps too which might reduce any possible chances of accidents further, but really go to a showroom and see. www.quooker.co.uk/safety

But get a qooker asi think it’s the only proper boiling one. The one we have at work is crap.
