Redoing bathrooms - tips and things to avoid

We are finally renovating bathrooms and I've been to a few showrooms to get a feel for function and aesthetics of showers, enclosures, etc. I have to say, I am totally overwhelmed with the choice out there, for all budgets, so just wanted to know if anyone has done recently, anything you wished you had known beforehand, any particular brands that are brilliant for product and after sales, anything you wouldn't do without. Any tips or anything that we should definitely avoid.

No idea if this has been mentioned but I put the taps at the end of my double ended bath in my en-suite having put them in the centre of the family bath as Nate having my legs burnt with top-up hot water or somehow having to scrunch myself up so legs don't get burnt.

As it happens the tap set I chose for the en-suite has a mini shower attachment which has a wall holder. This is brilliant for allowing bath to fill silently with it placed under water while I'm in the bath trying to listen to audio book.
Also fab for dog washing!
