How do you find the perfect home?

There's very limited search criteria on Rightmove etc.

If for example I wanted a 4 bedroom home with ample parking, a kitchen island with a gas hob and a decent garden how would I go about searching that?

(Is it easy to install a gas hob kitchen island into any kitchen?) Know very little as this is my first time but have waited a very long time to save up!

The hob is completely trivial cost-wise. If it’s not on mains you can use lpg. An island is something you could retrofit if room is big enough - contrasting colour and/or worktop is easy, of ask vendors where kitchen came from. It’s probably not going to be a huge cost compared with the house price, moving costs, survey, legal fees, stamp duty, etc.
Even bedroom numbers can be changed if you desperately want to (eg something sold as 3 beds & home office could easily be used as a 4-bedroom house).
Off street parking can be a possibility by changing front garden, esp if you use s as porous surface for it (eg gravel).
I’m always worried about missing the Dream House because search criteria causes it to be missed out.
There’s so little on the market that I’d be searching by area, 3-bed as minimum size, max budget.

You need to search for the things you can't change. So I'd be looking for houses with parking and a good sized garden.
Almost all houses have a gas supply, and you can replace a kitchen (or even extend it) to get the kitchen you want. You might walk in to your dream home - more likely, you'll need to change some things to suit you.
There's not much you can do if there's no off-street parking & the garden is the size of a postage stamp though.

Grin I could probably tell you the pros/cons of every 3- or 4-bed house in the UK at this point.
